Alerus Center

The Alerus Center is a state-of-the-art facility that can host various conventions, exhibitions, meetings and banquets. It also houses a regulation NCAA football and soccer field. The arena seats 13,400 for football or soccer and 22,000 for entertainment events. The Center features 17 luxury suites, eight concession stands, two vending sites, 14 ticket windows and four merchandise stands. With 130,000 square feet of exhibit space, it is the largest hall between Seattle and the Twin Cities. The Center opened its doors in February 2001 and has hosted such acts as Bill Cosby, Aerosmith, Cher and the Backstreet Boys.

Cabela's

Downtown East Grand Forks is home to Cabela's fifth largest retail store. The design of this 60,000 square foot building includes a 35-foot high "mountain" with wild game mounts, a firearms library and a huge aquarium with live bass, pike and many other fish.

Heritage Village

This historic village serves as an instrument preserving the history of the Northern Red River Valley. During Heritage Days, the third week of every August, steam engine threshing machines, museum displays, demonstrations and much more await your visit. Weekend tours are available. Facilities are available for class and family reunions. Special group tours welcome. Call for tour arrangements.

Myra Museum and Campbell House

Maintained by the Grand Forks County Historical Society, this museum features cultural and ethnic displays. Built circa 1897, the Campbell House is dedicated to pioneer women. A one-room schoolhouse and the original Grand Forks log post office, which was refurbished into a general store are also on the grounds. Museum is open daily from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other buildings are open mid-May through mid-September, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Call for more information about scheduling a tour.

North Dakota Musuem of Art

The North Dakota Museum of Art is "a cultural jewel on the prairie" receiving accolades nationally for quality visual arts, innovative programming, and strong leadership. Besides the permanent collection, the Museum has frequent world-class traveling exhibits, serves as a venue for classical music concerts, sponsors lectures and workshops, offers art education to school children, and provides cultural space for community social functions. The Museum's exhibition program brings art and artists from the region, across the United States, and around the world to North Dakota. The Museum is located on the campus of the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, on Centennial Drive. Hours are 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays and 1 to 5 PM on weekends.

Ralph Engelstad Arena

Having the only Division I hockey team in the state, the University of North Dakota boasts a new $100 million arena. The 400,000 sq. ft., five-story arena, with seating for 11,406 is truly the envy of the NCAA. The main lobby area has ticket sales, a pro shop and complete "Sioux Tradition" museum. The arena will host family shows, ice events and Fighting Sioux Hockey!

The Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, a 50,000 square foot expansion to Ralph Engelstad Arena, houses four regulation size practice volleyball and basketball courts all of which can be converted into one main game court.

Tours are available Monday-Friday at 1:30 p.m. Please call for reservations, 701.777.6636. The fee $3.00/person. Group tours are available with reservations at least three weeks in advance.

UND Aerospace

Regarded as one of the best collegiate aviation complexes in the world, the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences features an atmospherium, high altitude chamber, flight and air traffic control simulators and the Regional Weather Information Center. The airport houses flight operations, including training aircraft. Weekday tours can be arranged by calling for a reservation.

Butterfly Garden & Native Prairie Grassland

Jerry Wenzel is a seventh grade science teacher at East Grand Forks Central Middle School. Along with restoring to native prairie a 30-acre site next to the school, he (along with Vince Ames) developed a 25,000 square foot butterfly garden. The garden is designed to attract all types of butterflies and the native prairie site features a variety of different grasses and wild flowers and is great for bird-watching. Both are also used as outdoor classrooms for Jerry's life science classes. However, the public is welcome to come and visit and if contacted beforehand, a tour can even be set up.

Grand Forks Air Force Base

The base is home to the 319th Air Refueling Wing. Restored aircraft on display at front gate including a renovated B-52, KC-135, Minute Man 3, F-101 and a B-25. They require at least 10 people (no more than 40) and at least 3 weeks advance notice for tours. Call for information.

Two Fools Vineyard & Winery

3.5 acre vineyard with six different kinds of grapes and some berries. You can also make and bottle your own wine. Open Saturdays and Sundays, July through October.

Casey Holt Junction

The building, designed to resemble a train depot, features a 32 by 17 foot room housing a model railroad layout. It also includes meeting rooms, a telegraph office with bay window and a public viewing hall. Just outside, there is 300 feet of standard gage railroad track with a restored Great Northern Railway caboose. An operating block signal and motor car house are located just east of the main building. Please call to schedule a tour.

Grand Forks Herald Community Room

The Grand Forks Herald Community Room is located in the former pressroom of the newspaper. The glass block windows and the iron catwalk and ceiling beams serve as reminders of the room's industrial origins. The Community Room is also a site for public events. Open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

USDA-ARS Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center

The Center has been a world leader in mineral nutrition research for more than 30 years. Scientists conduct basic and applied research to expound the role of diet in supporting good health. In the process, the Center generates more knowledge about healthful foods and diets. Research at the Center serves the health needs of all Americans.
